Don’t you hate it when you’re watching some news report about a gruesome murder scene or maybe some massive cult suicide, and as they’re showing you footage of the scene from an overhead helicopter, most of the parts of the scene that you really want to see are completely blurred out.

I am not trying to be insensitive. I understand there are perfectly good reasons for not showing some of the more disgusting or shocking images from such scenes. For one, children do watch the news. Also, many people consider it disrespectful to admire the carnage after a particularly destructive or catastrophic event. I mean, imagine it was one of your family members that got maimed or died in the tragedy.

I can understand the need for discretion on national television, but still – shouldn’t it be okay to have access to the raw, unedited footage of an event? Maybe it’s just my fanatical belief in the freedom of information, but I feel passionate about the public access to any and all information, including video footage of any news event if that footage exists.

That is why I am more than pleased to offer six websites that do offer unedited, completely raw footage of both news events you’ll hear about on the evening news, and some that you won’t. In every case, these sites show you more footage than you’ll ever see on TV.

First, I should say that I tried to keep this list away from overtly sexual or completely disgusting video sites. The following six websites are the sort of sites you would go to when you want to see those really “out there” videos, when all you get from the mainstream media is blurred or heavily edited video.

Xfinity Video

The first site I wanted to mention is a warm-up for what’s to come. The videos here will probably only be “shocking” to ultra-conservative types, but it’s where you would go if you want to see things like Howard Stern making out with Matt Lauer, the crazy dog clip from America’s Got Talent, Gisele Bundchen “exposing her bra” at a celebrity event, or someone getting bit by a rattlesnake.

Okay, so those are only a tad bit surprising right? Maybe some of you barely even raised your eyebrows. Well, don’t worry, we’re just getting started. The next few video sites will do a little more than raise your eyebrows.

Too Shocking

Too Shocking is a website offered by the Endurance Media Network. Here, you’ll find videos that are just really surreal and odd. A few examples include a guy lighting up a cigarette while filling up his gas tank and nearly causing an explosion, a Ferrarri running a red light and causing a huge collision, and a truck colliding with a bunch of cows.

These videos are crazy enough to warrant forwarding to your friends, but not so shocking that you’ll get fired if you get caught watching them during your lunch break.

Tru TV – Most Shocking

In the past, I took issue with some of the shows on TrueTV. I know a lot of people like Governor Jesse Ventura’s show about conspiracies on TruTV, but I always felt the show was a bit too over-dramatic, and poorly researched.

With that said, the “Most Shocking” section of the site offers some pretty insane video content that will have your jaw on the floor before you know it.

A few examples of the content you’ll find at the TruTV site are videos like the blonde that goes after some men harassing her from a car with an axe, or the one where a teen doing bike tricks runs down two old ladies on the side walk.

To be completely honest, while some of these look pretty shocking and authentic, there are a couple – like the axe-welding blonde – that look a little bit too contrived to be believable. Check them out yourself and see what you think.

Hell.TV Lives Up To Its Name

Hell TV tags itself as “the underworld of the Internet.” I don’t know if I’d go that far – the underworld runs pretty deep after all – but some of these videos will really surprise you. These aren’t so much gruesome as they are psychologically damaging.

Maybe the site is called Hell.TV because it’s about people that are most likely going to hell. You’ll find the news coverage of the mother accused of sexually abusing her son, Tracy Morgans infamous “gay rant”, and one of an athlete doing a deadlift, and then puking. Ok, I guess that one was kind of gross.

OMG News

Hell.TV has a mix of both shocking news video and just shocking video in general, but at OMG News, you’ll find videos focused on amazing news stories that will surprise you.  Yes, they really will make you say, “Oh…My….God.”

The UK-based site is set up like a blog, with a highlight of a shocking news video every month or so.  Updates might be infrequent, but the archive of shocking news videos is fairly long. You’ll find news videos like coverage of the “World Naked Bike Ride”, the news story about students climbing three mountains in one day, or the news report showing a 70 foot tall scaffolding that wiped out 6 cars on the street.

These are mostly news report videos that offer shots of events or catastrophes after the fact. So, if you’re still looking for even more shocking video websites, don’t worry. I’ve got one more video site that will satisfy all of your rubberneck desire to see gore.

Luckily, I can show you ToxicJunction, because it has a “Safe for Work” setting that will literally cover up the most gruesome video captures with a picture that reads, “Extreme Graphic Content 18+ Only”.

If you’ve gotten this far in your search for shocking videos and you aren’t satisfied, then may I present to you one of the most disturbing shocking-video sites online.

At ToxicJunction, you’ll see videos of gruesome accidents and attacks, or simply news footage of natural deaths that many news stations won’t show on TV out of respect for the victim. One example – watch Columbian Congressman Jose Fernando Castro have a heart attack on live television.

That is one of the more tame videos at the site. Start digging deeper (or turn off the filter) and you’ll find all of the shock and awe you can handle. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
